Who We Are

Enhancing Education: Louisiana's Statewide Family Engagement Initiative
The Louisiana Statewide Family Engagement Center (LA-SFEC), led by The Center for Literacy & Learning, works alongside local community partners to develop and implement a systemic, family-engaged infrastructure that improves student outcomes, empowers and supports families to implement at-home learning strategies and increases the capacity of local education agencies and schools to implement high-quality family engagement plans that are responsive to the diverse needs of learners in the state. The LA-SFEC’s goal is to provide a toolkit of evidence-based family engagement supports to increase students’ overall learning success.

Who We Serve

Problems We Face

Increasing family-school engagement is crucial in Louisiana. With the state at a poverty level 50% higher than the national average, the consequences of low literacy attainment are exceptionally high, with the greatest impacts on economically disadvantaged families and ethnic and linguistic minorities.

*This data is taken from the average scale scores of the National Assessment of Education
Progress (NAEP) assessments in mathematics, reading, and writing in grades 4 and 8. This data
shows children in Louisiana are significantly below their national counterparts.

Through awareness, education, and resources, the LA-SFEC aims to provide families, educators, and other important education entities with the tools and skills to effectively collaborate and increase student success.
